Lays AmIDST DARKLY dAYS, VOL. 1
nice to meet you!
(A hobbyist creating at leisure) I am a single-sided deaf autodidact from Medieval-to-Regency Warwickshire (of a variegated Celt and Latin European background). An avant-gardist who grew up with Roman-Celtic polytheism curious kinsfolk and a bohemian-style rearing (across lands) unshy of the occult. Always, seeing through a lens that kept life mysterious and I, in awe. After experiencing multiple life-threatening events, I realised that time is (as the cliché suggests) far too precious (as is good mental health). Thus, rather than cultivating my artist-self on today's platforms, I remain to live La Vie Bohème (as my ancestors before me did). I prefer to focus on crafting new works in the studio and, upon their completion, sharing on a more intimate (less accessible) level. One that feels more special to me and happens in my most personal space, here. Connecting to others with art and letters direct from me (as was the ways of the past). I embrace mystery and those ways of old, the days where the world had exclusivity as a polymath ever on an exploration with clay, paint, textiles, music, and (multilingual) words. There can be some vocal-and-written gymnastics going on, trapezing a tightrope of my ancestral tongues of Breton/French, Welsh and Irish, and Latin/Italian, Catalan, sprinkling the English.
Much of my sound has intentional distortion and imperfections and either an antiqued or vintage aesthetic. My recordings are spontaneous and diarist. I am, for the most part, a dark-romantic performance poet, not a singer-songwriter. I never use a traditional song structure (or singing style). My recordings are (lays) poems in Avant-Garde song. A neo-troubadour and one to lament and keen, a tradition I've grown with when in mourning, and I confess my tendency to weep, howl, growl and wail. Classically, I was (thanks to a love of reading) self-taught, first as a harpsichordist from age six. So, aside from the poetry, there are also instrumental art music works. My auditory paintings, crafted to invoke visual images from sounds. A reflection of the magic lantern-type shows that my imagination conjures when I read. Some of these musical artworks are my original compositions, and others are a marriage of favourite literature and classical composers works.
My words come directly from diaries that I keep, confessional writing, that (sometimes) end up as books. I have been publishing these for around fifteen years to this day. As you've probably guessed from the above, admittedly, I have never given a live show or sought to make a music video, and any photography or videography is typically some form of self-portraiture visual art. An open-world and modern convention (with social media) is not my ideal. Everything is homemade and (self-published/managed) wholly. I am the tiny single entity behind it all. I guess you could say that I am living and loving it before I give up the ghost, evading the mainstream and very oft venturing off into artistic spaces and intoxicated by my reality. Would you like to stay in touch by receiving my letters? I humbly invite and would love for you to join me at the bottom of this page.
